Meet Your Teacher

I’m Gesa — a German teacher, mom of three teenage boys, and native speaker from Germany. I’ve spent more than twenty years working with children and teens through tutoring, coaching, kids’ programs, choirs, and teaching in elementary school.

I teach students locally in Pensacola and online across the USA and around the world, including families from Russia, Italy, Switzerland, Brazil, Austria, Hungary, and more.

My goal is a calm, friendly learning space where every child feels safe, encouraged, and proud of their progress — even if they’re shy or brand new to German.

Kids Group (Ages 8–12)

A playful, gentle introduction to German using the children’s book Los geht’s. We work with pictures, songs, simple words, short sentences, and lots of repetition so that kids feel proud of what they can already say.

  • Format: In person group class
  • Length: 8 weeks · 1 lesson per week · 30 minutes
  • Level: Beginners, start of A1, no prior German needed
  • Group size: Small group, usually 4–8 children
  • Materials: Los geht’s book is included in the course price

In the first 8 weeks, most groups complete about units 1–4 of the first Los geht’s book. This is a gentle start into a 3 book series that together leads to level A1 over time. The pace can be adjusted to the group.

Example topics: greetings, numbers, colors, family, classroom language, and simple questions and answers like “How are you?” and “What is this?”

Teens Group (Ages 13–15)

A structured yet relaxed class using prima aktiv A1.1, the first book in a two part A1 series for teenagers. Teens learn real life vocabulary, dialogues, and grammar in small, manageable steps, with plenty of time to ask questions and practice speaking.

  • Format: In person group class
  • Length: 8 weeks · 1 lesson per week · 45 minutes
  • Level: A1 beginners, no previous German required
  • Group size: Small group, usually 4–8 teens
  • Materials: prima aktiv A1.1 book is included in the course price

In the first 8 weeks, most groups work through about chapters 1–4 of prima aktiv A1.1. This is a solid start into the A1.1 book. Completing both A1.1 and A1.2 later will lead to a full A1 level.

Example topics: introducing yourself, talking about family and school, free time and hobbies, simple daily routines, and early A1 grammar such as personal pronouns, regular verbs in the present tense, and basic questions.

  • Tech: No laptops needed for class. I provide printed materials and copies as needed.
  • Upcoming dates: Trial lesson planned for mid December, with the 8 week course starting in early January. Exact dates are confirmed with interested families.

If families prefer a different time of day, I am happy to collect interest and see if a second group can be opened.

What a German4FUN Homeschool Class Looks Like

Each lesson takes place in a friendly, encouraging small group setting. We begin with a short warm up to help everyone feel comfortable, then move into speaking practice, vocabulary, and simple grammar through games, movement, and age appropriate activities.

Classes are structured but relaxed, so students know what to expect each week, and there is always room for curiosity, questions, and fun. I keep groups small so every child can participate comfortably. Shy students ease in gently, while confident ones can engage more boldly.

We use high quality, age specific German textbooks, along with worksheets, real life examples, and Quizlet vocabulary games. The goal is for students to feel confident saying real German sentences from the very first lessons, without pressure or stress.

Why Parents Trust German4FUN

Parents want to know their children are in good hands, not only academically, but also emotionally and socially. German4FUN is led by someone who has spent a lifetime working with kids and teens in many different settings.

I’m a mom of three teenage boys and have taught and supported children for more than twenty years through private tutoring, coaching, kids’ choirs, children’s ministry, school settings, and community programs. Working with children has always been a natural part of my life, and I bring patience, structure, and warmth into every class I teach.

I understand how to help shy learners feel safe, how to keep energetic students engaged, and how to create a learning environment where each child feels seen, supported, and capable. Families often tell me their kids look forward to coming, and that is the best feedback I could ask for.

I follow common safety practices for children’s classes and maintain a clean professional history. I previously completed a background check for my long term work with children at my church and I am happy to renew one if required by a co-op or organization. Parents are always welcome to contact me with any questions.

Parent Attendance

You are warmly welcome to observe the trial lesson to see how I teach and how your child engages. After the trial, classes are drop off only. This keeps the group focused, calm, and confident. Because this is a structured small group class, siblings who are not enrolled cannot join the session.

Learning Needs & Classroom Fit

Every child learns differently, and I happily welcome students with different personalities, energy levels, and learning styles. Many kids with mild ADHD, anxiety, or similar needs do very well in my small, structured groups. At the same time, these classes are not designed as a specialized or therapeutic learning environment. For the comfort of all students, children need to be able to participate safely in a small group setting and show a basic willingness to learn. If you are unsure whether the class is a good fit, feel free to message me. I am happy to talk it through with you.

Homework & Extra Practice

To help students build confidence and keep new vocabulary fresh, I encourage light weekly homework. It is always short, manageable, and age appropriate. Students also receive access to my German4FUN Quizlet class with fun flashcards and vocabulary games.

Certificate of Completion

At the end of the course, each student receives a Certificate of Completion for your homeschooling records. This is not an official state credential, but many parents appreciate having documentation that their child participated in an 8 week German language course.

From a Homeschool Mom

“Gesa has been an excellent teacher to myself and two children. She is professional, patient, prepared and kind with us all. A great teacher all round. We look forward to learning and speaking with her. Thank you Gesa!”

— Greta

Certificates & Documentation for Homeschool Portfolios

At the end of each 8 week course, families receive a Certificate of Completion for their records, along with a short Skills Summary that lists the main topics, vocabulary, and learning objectives covered in class.

These documents can be used for homeschool portfolios, end of year evaluations, or general progress tracking. They include the class name, dates, materials used, and an overview of what your child or teen accomplished during the session.

While this is not an accredited school program, it provides clear, structured documentation that most homeschool families find helpful and fully sufficient for their reporting needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child need any German experience?

No. Both groups are designed for beginners at A1 level. We start with sounds, simple words, and short sentences and build up from there.

What should my child bring?

A pencil, something to write on, and their German book once they receive it. I provide extra materials and handouts.

My child is shy. Will they be okay in a group class?

Yes. Many of my students start out shy or unsure. I keep the groups small, give everyone time, and never force a child to speak before they are ready. Confidence grows slowly, with small successes.

Can siblings join the same group?

Yes, as long as the age range and level is a good fit. Please mention this when you contact me, and we can decide together which group works best.

What happens if my child misses a class?

If your child needs to miss a class, I send a short summary of what we did so they can review at home. Because these are small group classes, there are no refunds or individual make up lessons for missed sessions.
